Our Methodology
TSG employs a robust, scientific process which has been developed and refined over a period of time by a team of experienced professionals.
We have the ability to start small, focused on specific issues, but with the flexibility to grow the model as new ‘what if’ questions start cropping up and/or the scope expands.
Our focus is to work with our clients to develop solutions, not just models.
- Phased approach
TSG employs a phased approach to simulation studies to provide greater certainty for our clients and to ensure that the simulation is in fact the correct approach to deliver the required outcomes.
- Scientific Method
Coding a simulation model is only part of any simulation study. Models must be verified and validated before rigorous scientific methods are applied to generate true insight into the system being studied.
- Integration with the decision making team
TSG recommends a team-based approach for all simulation studies with the aim of involving all levels, from plant operators to vice presidents, in the simulation process. Collating these different perspectives results in a model that is more likely to capture all the relevant system interactions.
Below is a flow diagram showing the process we follow for each phase of a project.
As with any modelling process, significant effort is required in data gathering and logic definition to ensure the model will perform in a manner that is representative of the real world operation.
At TSG, we employ a consultative team approach, which allows input from a client's team at all levels of operations. During the data collection and validation phases the client's team are able to examine their data for correctness - often resulting in improved efficiencies and identification of potential bottlenecks even prior to the model being created. This review of data increases the validity and robustness of the model for the client and ultimately its reliability.
